Martin K. Kuhlmann, MD, is board certified Internist, Nephrologist and Diabetologist and serves as Director of the Division of Nephrology at Vivantes Klinikum im Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany. He is Associate Professor of Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Saarland, Germany. He received his nephrology training at the Universities of Freiburg and Saarland, Germany, and basic research education at Torrance Memorial Hospital, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA under Joel D. Kopple. From 2003 through 2005 he served as Clinical Research Laboratory Director at the Renal Research Institute in New York, and was Visiting Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA. His research interest focuses on management of chronic kidney disease and renal nutrition with a focus on the combination of dietary and medicinal management of hyperphosphatemia; He is also active in the field of treatment and prevention of diabetic nephropathy. Dr. Kuhlmann has published more than 100 original papers in international peer reviewed journals. He is member of several societies, including the German Nephrology Society, the German Diabetes Society, The European Renal Association and the American Society of Nephrology.
